What is 5G Technology and Developing 5G Technology:


As we know that in telecom, we are currently using Fourth generation (4G) network which is much and more efficient as compare with previous technology like- (2G & 3G) third generation and second generation, The Fifth Generation (5G) is standard of cellular networks, In this cellular phone companies began deploying worldwide in 2019, and the planned successor to the fourth generation (4G) networks which provide connectivity to most current cell phones.

Like its predecessors, Fifth Generation (5G) networks are cellular networks, in which there we provide services area is divided into small geographical areas called cell (group of cell is known as cluster).

All Fifth Generation (5G) wireless devices in a cell are connected to the Internet and telephone network by radio waves through the local antenna in the cells. 

The main advantage of the Fifth Generation (5G) new networks is that they will have greater bandwidth, giving faster download speeds, eventually up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps). 

Due to the increased bandwidth, now it is expected that the new networks will not just serve cell phones like existing cellular networks. 

Current 4G cell phones will not be able to use the new networks, which will require new 5G enabled wireless devices, need the devices that support 5G service.

The increased speed and bandwidth is achieved partly by using higher frequency radio waves than current cellular networks like 3G and 4G services.

Advantage and Disadvantage of 5G: 

As we know evert technology have some advantage and some disadvantage lets see below mention the results,

Advantage of  5G (Fifth generation):
  • 5G speeds will range from ~50 Mbit/s to over 2 Gbit/s at the starting time of the generation.
  • The main advantage of the fifth generation (5G) , its having greater speed in the transmissions.
  • This is more effective and efficient.
  • 5G is Easy to manage as compare with the previous generations.
  • 5G provide wide range of features.

Disadvantage of 5G Technology:

  • This technology is still in process and the team of research on its viability is going on.
  • As we know many of old devices would not be competent of fifth generation 5G.
  • Its security and privacy issue yet to be solved.

However higher frequency microwaves have a shorter range of service than the frequencies used by previous cell phone towers which are using for 2G, 3G and 4G, requiring smaller cells. So to ensure wide service area, Fifth Generation (5G) networks operate on up to three frequency bands, low, medium, and high. 

A Fifth Generation (5G) network will be composed of networks of up to three different types of cells, each cell requiring different antennas, each type giving a different trade off of download/upload speed vs. distance and service area their the services will provide. 

Fifth Generation (5G) cell phones and wireless devices will connect to the network through the highest speed antenna within range at their locations. 


(1). In the Low-band Fifth Generation (5G) uses a similar frequency range for the  current using  Fourth generation (4G) cell phones, 600-700 MHz giving download speeds a little higher than 4G: 30-250 megabits per second (Mbps),  Low-band cell towers will have a similar range and coverage area to current 4G towers.

(2). In the Mid-band Fifth Generation (5G) uses microwaves of (2.5-3.7) GHz, currently it’s allowing speeds up to 100 to 900 Mbps, with each individual cell tower providing service up to several miles radius/area. This level of service is the most widely deployed, and it will be available in most metropolitan areas in 2020.

In Some countries are not implementing low-band, making this it minimum service level. High-band 5G uses frequencies of 25 - 39 GHz, near the bottom of the millimetre wave band, to achieve download speeds of 1 - 3 gigabits per second (Gbps), comparable to cable internet.

As we know that “The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India” (TRAI) has issued, white paper press statement for stating that 5G is set to transform communication networks and will bring massive growth in Indian economy by 2021-2022. “The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India” TRAI has also ordered to all telecom operators companies to identify specific use causes for fifth generation (5G) launch.
